Research from Target Marketing Magazine suggests that some industries are more suited to direct mail campaigns than others. In their list of 10 successful direct mail campaigns, the following industries featured heavily:

- Insurance
- Telecom/Cable
- Clubs/Associations
Startups also analysed some of the most effective door drop campaigns, and praised Domino’s, Freeview HD and Wyevale Garden Centres for their strategic door drop campaigns. We are therefore able to suggest that food and drink and retail/specialist stores also benefit from this type of marketing.
Email marketing
The 2016 Email Industry Census – Key Sector Report identified the top-six sectors for using email marketing:
- Charities, Government and Not-For-Profit organisations. 84% of respondents rated email ROI as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ 65% rated the performance of email campaigns as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
- Travel & Hospitality. 83% of respondents rated email ROI as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’, 63% rated the performance of email campaigns as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
- Retail/Mail Order. 82% of respondents rated email ROI as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’, 57% of respondents rated their company email campaigns as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
- Print/Publishing & Media. 77% of respondents rated email ROI as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’. 73% of respondents rated the performance of email campaigns as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
- Financial Services & Insurance. 67% of respondents rated email ROI as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’. 56% rated the performance of their company email campaigns as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
- Technology & Telecoms. 66% of respondents rated email ROI as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’. 51% of respondents rated the performance of email campaigns as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
